You can throw rocks at the Natchez Trace from her home in Chickasaw County, about 20 miles outside of Tupelo, Mississippi. You can hear the fond memories of then eleven year old Jordyn in songs like Tell Me A Story, My Own and Buttercup Hill. You can now hear the memories of an ambitious teenager in songs like Life Is Simple, Kiss Me Cowboy and Heartbreak Heaven.
Jordyn loved to sing with her grandma as a toddler. Then, by age five, her first solo was in a church Christmas play. It was at this small country church that Jordyn’s love for music grew deeper. It is amazing how that little church has had so many talented people emerge from it, such as Paul Thorn (singer/songwriter), Brenda Whitlock (Gospel singer/songwriter), Ben Hall (singer/musician) and many other talented individuals.
In just the fourth grade, her momma remembers her running down the stairs of their home saying “Momma, listen to my song I wrote.” At age 10, she recorded a few cover songs at a local studio with money she received as a Christmas gift.
At 11 years old, she made her first of many demo recordings at a studio in Nashville, TN. It was there that she met and started working with one of the studio owners (George Clinton) and his wife, Susan. Sitting in the studio one day, she brought out a notebook of songs she had written. George looked through the notebook and really expressed to Jordyn the importance of songwriting and encouraged her to write more and more.
At age 12, she finished recording vocals for her first collection of songs she wrote or co-wrote for a CD called Tell Me A Story. Also, by this time, Jordyn learned guitar. Jordyn had taken piano lessons for a few years, but loves the convenience of the guitar when performing at different venues.
At 13 years old, although Jordyn did not enter many talent contests, she won the finals of the Loretta Lynn Talent Search in Hurricane Mills, TN. Jordyn then spent the next few years focusing on writing and performing at local venues.
By the age of 16, Jordyn has had the honor of opening concerts for Jake Owen, Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, Ronnie McDowell, Emerson Drive, Tim Murphy, and many other local area bands. Jordyn has also had the honor of writing with some of Nashville’s top songwriters.
Now, just turning 17 years old, Jordyn is about to graduate high school. She has worked very hard the past few years taking extra classes in order to graduate one year early. With her hands on the wheel now, she is packing her bags and anxious to start living where she has always dreamed of: Nashville.
